Even though this game has that, it's the psychological horror that gets me and this game has it. I'm not really a big lover of gore horror, I find it cheap and tacky. I would be very, very surprised if someone hasn't paused the game for being scared. You need nerves of steel to handle this game. I can't comment on Outlast 2 since I haven't played that yet but I have played the other 2 games. Fast forward 3 years later and Outlast was confirmed with a physical release, but to my surprise they added the DLC Whistleblower and Outlast 2 as some sort of trilogy package named as Outlast Trinity. I think at the time it was released digitally on the PS4, usually I buy all my games physically so it gave me the perfect excuse not to buy it. At the time I thought to myself "Good job I'm not playing that game" it looked absolutely terrifying. 4 years ago I watched my favourite YouTuber (TheRadBrad) do a walkthrough of this game. NOTHING! He just stands there and lets himself be beaten/stabbed to death! He should at least have a left hook button which gives a few seconds breathing space to attempt an escape.Ī good portion of the game is spent in darkness so you have your camcorder's night vision to find your way, you have a limited battery supply for this each one of which runs out of juice at an alarming speed! This is fine and works well within the game right to the point where your battery dies and you realise you have none left, you do get a tiny bit of illumination through the camcorder still which I guess is to allow you to try to find more batteries but I found it easier to just reload a recent save and go from there.įor this price you are getting two full games and the Whistleblower DLC, I've just started Outlast 2 and it seems more polished but I haven't progressed enough to say more than that.īefore buying this game I knew what I was in for. * Not being able to defend yourself makes no sense whatsoever! If I were trapped in a corner by some mad dude trying to kill me there is going to be a fight! If all I have is fists and feet then I am going to throw them and smash his face in! What does our hero do?. * The main antagonists kill you as soon as they get to you (unless you're lucky enough to get away and get to a hiding place) and the whole game is all about finding where to go next which means that you have to die repeatedly (by running into the bad guy) before you finally spot the exit! Reload game, reload game, reload game etc etc. Here's my problem A lot will depend on how you want to play a survival horror game, Outlast gives you no defensive options at all! Initially you will think it's a good game mechanic to increase the tension but it's not for a couple of reasons:. I've now finished the game (and the Whistleblower add-on) and it is good, I would have liked it to be more spooky rather than just a horror/gore fest, something to make your skin crawl along the Silent Hill lines but nevertheless it does make you jump on occasion. I took my time picking Outlast, I wanted a good, scary game to play through and all the reviews sent me to Amazon to order it.
